THROUGH THE OIL TREE
Inconveniently, if you drive a car, Plant a tree The portion is so inversely VHS or DVD, black plastic Made to entertain me And discarded eventually Movie piles of technology. Consumers of petroleum, please My needs include cooling trees More leaves to cure car disease Carbon levels create rising heat Green Growth please Beautiful shade creating Converting carbon leafy trees
The Oil Tree sculptures are displayed in the film journal, Projector, Issue Thee, 2011. These sculptures were created by breaking VHS tapes and creating a dimensional mosaic from the shards. They are meant to remind us of the ability for trees to clean our air and reduce the rising temperatures created by petroleum use. There is an Iranian film called Through the Olive Tree, about breaking down and reassembling the making of one scene of the same director's, prior movie. This cycle of creation, breakdown, and reconstruction is also being seen in the Washed Ashore project.
